Rebeka Lauks is an Associate Lawyer with Battista Smith Migration Law Group. Rebeka’s practice focuses on representing clients before the Immigration and Refugee Board and Federal Court, as well as family sponsorship, economic, and humanitarian and compassionate applications. Rebeka also has expertise in complex inadmissibility issues, including criminal inadmissibility. Prior to joining Battista Smith, Rebeka worked for an internationally-known immigration firm in Toronto and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Rebeka has also worked at a boutique litigation firm focused on mental health, disability, education, human rights and Canadian Charter of Rights law. Committed to community service, Rebeka volunteers with CLEO’s Steps to Justice program and Pro Bono Ontario. Rebeka also teaches an online course in Refugee Law with the University of British Columbia.

Rebeka has a law degree (J.D.) from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. During law school, Rebeka spent a semester as a caseworker with the immigration and refugee law division of the University of Toronto’s Downtown Legal Services clinic. She was also awarded a Donner Civic Leadership Fund fellowship, through which she spent a summer working at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre.  

Rebeka holds membership in the Refugee Lawyers Association, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, and the Canadian Bar Association.
